Water treatment and wastewater treatment are among IFAT Munich’s largest exhibition areas—fully in line with the global significance and the extent of the tasks to be solved. This sector will include the following topics:

Sewage sludge

Developers are increasingly focusing on the recycling of the valuable substances contained in waste water—above all the recovery of phosphorus from waste water, sewage sludge or from sewage sludge incineration ash.

Also gaining in importance: processes for stabilizing sewage sludge and for an efficient dewatering and drying of sewage sludge. These processes’ main objectives are to efficiently use the energy contained in the sewage sludge and to reduce the amount to be disposed of.

Energy-efficient sewage treatment plants

Modern wastewater treatment plants require a great deal of energy to ensure the cleaning performance required for sustainable water conservation.

Advancements in the field of measurement, control and regulation technology, modern aeration units or highly efficient systems with combined heat and power (CHP) for the use of digester gas make it possible today to sustainably improve the energy balance of wastewater treatment.

Water shortage

Water scarcity is a global issue. Hence, it is a must to use this irreplaceable resource sustainably. Water treatment plants make a considerable contribution here, for example by a clever use of operating water and rainwater or by pioneering desalination processes.
