The spotlight area “Spotlight Circular Textile Handling– Towards a Better Future” is dedicated to the fate of fabric mixtures after they have been taken to the used clothing container. “Reduce, reuse, repair, recycle” is the mantra of many EU directives and regulations. And yes, “waste” can be a valuable resource if it is sorted, cleaned, processed, and recycled properly. But is this even feasible for textiles? And is it also worthwhile for the companies behind this process? The fact is that the largest form of recycling in Germany continues to be thermal energy recovery.
