Our role as the world‘s leading trade fair entails accepting responsibility. That is why we want to express the principle of sustainability in our actions. We want to set a good example and make IFAT Munich more sustainable in an ongoing process, from the selection of materials, the compensation of unavoidable CO₂ emissions and the handling of waste to the motivation of our exhibitors and visitors. Let’s join forces to make IFAT Munich even more sustainable.

As the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Water, Sewage, Waste and Raw Materials Management, we not only want to set an example, but point the way.
Our priorities:
- We make more out of less! We conserve resources thanks to not using aisle carpets.
- We produce our forums as well as the Spotlight Area Start-up and Circular Economy Mineral Resources from sustainable, resource-saving materials.
- Organise your CO₂-neutral trade fair booth directly from our partner meplan. You can either offset the complete CO₂ emissions of your selected ECO-system booth or make it even more sustainable with the "WOODï" system. "WOODï" cuts back on resources and offers you maximum flexibility when planning your booth.
Where CO₂ emissions cannot be avoided, we offset our carbon footprint by supporting carbon offset projects in cooperation with our partner myclimate.
One example on how we reduce our CO₂ emissions is the elimination of aisle carpets. This saves around 484t of CO₂, which is equivalent to 1,000 economy flights from Munich to Mallorca.
- The easy access to public transport allows you to get to IFAT Munich in an environmentally friendly way.
- You can refuel your electric car at almost 110 charging stations on the exhibition grounds.
- Sustainable waste management: we dispose of waste resulting from construction and dismantling as commercial waste for recycling—recyclable materials can thus be returned to the economic cycle.
- We reduce our print circulations and are constantly optimizing our digital advertising media.
- For our printed advertising materials, we only use FSC-certified recycled paper.
- We print our materials in a climate-neutral way.
- We deliberately cooperate with printing companies that commit to the principle of sustainability.
- In cooperation with our partner myclimate we enable every visitor a CO₂-neutral journey to and from IFAT Munich and the exhibitors a CO₂-neutral trade fair appearance.
- IFAT Munich is an official supporter of the Alliance for Development and Climate of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
- Our catering suppliers rely on local supply chains.
