The global project “Environmental Protection Worldwide” of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV), is pleased to announce its participation in the IFAT Trade Fair 2024. We are bringing together a distinguished delegation, including representatives from the Government of Ukraine, Ministries of Regional Departments, mayors, high-ranking officials from the municipal waste management company EcoService 2022, and members of the German “Bergisch Waste Association” (Bergischer Abfallwirtschaftsverband).

Mark your calendars for the 14th of May 2024, from 4:30 – 5:20 pm, as we host a public expert event at IFAT titled "Intermunicipal Cooperation as a Success Factor for Improved Waste Management." This event will unfold on the Orange Stage. The spotlight will be on the intermunicipal collaboration in the Ukrainian region of Poltava, specifically focusing on the establishment of Ecoservice-2022 – a communal enterprise for waste management uniting four communities. The session will delve into the successful formation of a city partnership between EcoService and the German Bergisch Waste Association (BAV), showcasing the exemplary cooperation that has enhanced waste management practices. The case study emphasizes the newfound expertise gained by the recently established enterprise in Ukraine, with crucial support from Germany in terms of equipment and knowledge transfer.

We extend a warm invitation to all interested parties to join us for this panel discussion. Gain valuable insights into the intricacies of intermunicipal cooperation and its pivotal role in achieving sustainable waste management. The actors involved will share their experiences, success factors and challenges they encountered during the project implementation.
